College Essay Writing on the Beach!
This 5 day workshop will give students a chance to write a first draft of their college essay, while still enjoying the beauty of summer in Marin! The goal of this workshop is to relieve the stress associated with this task and present it as a joyfully opportunity. While utilizing common sense advice from college admissions departments and effective brainstorming strategies to produce a quality college essay draft, this workshop is really intended to make the process of writing this essay meaningful for students and, dare I say, fun. It is also intended to provide structure for this task and support in seeing it through. It will promote a collaborative rather than competitive spirit among the participants, where each student will offer and receive support in finding their own authenticity in the task. Students will also make a time-based plan for how they will see through the rest of their writing process, so they feel confident knowing what they need to do moving forward to finalize their essays. We will spend the last day of the workshop in a classroom at Archie Williams High School in order to type up the drafts, but will spend the majority of the time brainstorming, reflecting and writing on Limantour Beach. Maximum capacity of 10 students per session.

Executive Functioning and the Science of Learning 101
Julia Saunders will lead a zoom workshop that breaks down executive functioning skills, like planning, time management, organization, self-regulation and initiation, to better understand them as well as to share strategies to support areas of struggle. We will also be touching upon the cognitive science that underlies certain behaviors and difficulties in learning in order to approach ourselves and our students with compassion and self-awareness. This workshop will also broach the science of memory, and how it can be applied for more effective study habits. This is open to parents and students, as it can be really helpful to have a shared understanding of what's going on beneath the surface when a students is struggling in one or more areas of learning.
